ALS is a terminal disease that has affected the relatively small group of local windsurfers in Corpus Christi. There have been at least six cases of ALS the families of this small group. In two cases, a mother (age 48) and windsurf friend (age 53) died within two years of diagnosis. Two other cases involve two fathers' that have been diagnosed with ALS. Two more cases involved other family members.
